Why I’m helping my son get to Washington DC

My 14 year old son, Wesley, has been working hard towards a dream: going to Washington DC with his 8th grade class in June 2012. He’s been babysitting, doing odd jobs, writing short stories, anything a 14 year old can do…and now in the final stretch, he’s putting on a dinner & dance fundraiser on February 4. For $25/person, guests will enjoy a catered dinner, string serenade, dancing, and a keepsake digital photo.

Going on an educational trip to DC with his class will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Wesley. It was for me, when I was 20. I spent three months there as an intern for Utah Senator Jake Garn, and it changed my life forever. There is nothing like seeing memorabilia first-hand from our Founding Fathers’ fight for our freedoms. The experience made me grateful to live in America. While there, I also joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Thus, DC holds a special place in my heart, and that’s why I am using all my special-event know-how in helping Wesley achieve his goal.

Thanks to everyone for buying tickets/donating, and just in general being very supportive of and encouraging Wesley!
