Remember the Rewards

Today’s Crossfit workout (as many times in 14 minutes)

  • 10 Wallballs
  • 15 Kettlebells
  • 30 Mountain climbers

I got 6 plus 30 Mountain climbers in today, then 4 minute planks. I love planks. I can literally feel my body get leaner as I suspend it like a bridge.

I have been doing Crossfit now for six weeks (since March 19). I have to say…it has been fabulous. Well, okay, confession time: it’s tough, and some mornings I have to drag myself out of bed especially when my husband is off and gets to sleep in. I usually drive the few blocks down to Crossfit and have a knot of anxiety about the day’s workout. But I force myself to go anyway. Why? Because I can seriously see the rewards.

Around the time of my Crossfit “midlife crisis,” I decided to have my hair chopped off. Belatedly, I realized that I would need new author photos. So I had new pics done this past week. It was so fun to not worry too much about a flat belly. Perhaps the biggest noticeable difference for me with Crossfit is, I shaved off a couple of inches off my gut.

Not only that, my stamina for many things – writing, walking, lifting, working – has increased tenfold. I played soccer the other day and did not die! That is a big accomplishment, people! I also since joined a critique group that has me motivated to finish my manuscript and signed up to attend citizen’s police academy.

So many positive changes in my life. I’m loving it.

An aside: After Crossfit, we each record our progress in notebooks. Imagine a shelf full of 40 something books, all with black spines. Well, finally yesterday, I wised up and put a little masking tape strip with my name on it. No more flipping through all the notebooks to find mine. 🙂 If something is hard, it doesn’t have to be.

Today’s Crossfit Takeaway:

  1. When you want to give up, think of how far you have come.
  2. When you think you can’t do “one more,” try anyway.
  3. When you want to sleep in and everyone around you is just relaxing, do the work and reap the rewards.
  4. No pain no gain.
  5. Count each small step. Soon, they will add up to bigger accomplishments.
  6. Record your progress, pat yourself on the back and set new goals.
