Pink Think: “Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” – Michael Jordan
My nametag & ribbons at the conference |
Just attended the amazing Tooele Business Conference yesterday. It was geared for the start-up company. I learned a lot and networked with others who I’m looking forward to staying in touch with.
They featured a keynote speaker from Outlaw Demolition whose comeback story was inspiring. Some of the the takeaways I got: prepare your business in case you become disabled or sick, you can rise up from your spectacular failures, you are your best cheerleader.
Throughout the day, I attended workshops. Two of my favorite speakers were Collette Gunnell, co-founder of Scentsy, and Carlos Linares, Small Business Development Director.
Collette said, “Believe in yourself, set high goals.” If you don’t know Scentsy’s start-up story, read it HERE. It’s pretty amazing. It’s an example of how a great idea came about as a solution to a problem, and with dint of courage, tenacity and vision, their founders made it successful.
I attended both workshops by Carlos. He’s a dynamic presentor who was a joy to be around. He shared the following tips:
1. Establish your Unique Selling Proposition
2. Put yourself in your customer’s shoes
3. Determine your products features & benefits. Features tell…benefits sell!
4. Be consistent.
5. Focus on the customer – What does my customer want?
Also enjoyed Ryan Murray’s workshop on “Tips to Grow your Business.” He suggested the following reads:
Good to Great by Jim Collins
The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley
Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
The American Dream is alive and kicking. I loved the power and energy at the conference among like-minded entrepreneurs!
