Grand Reunion 16

Pink Think: “I love to see my family together. That’s what life is about. It’s about family.” – Ja Rule

Yesterday, I spent the day as a tourist in the big city, taking my sister and her husband around. They flew in from Ireland the other night. They will be here for a couple of weeks. Over these next few days, my brother and his family will be flying in from the Philippines.

It’s a Grand Reunion for our family…it has been 21 years since my parents and all three of us siblings were all in the same room, let alone the same continent! And my kids, who have never met their cousin (my brother’s 11 year old son), are very excited.

Yesterday, my dad begged off going on the sightseeing trip, since he is not in great health, and Mom stayed home with him. So my husband and I and our three kids took the Irish couple around, but since we could not all fit in our truck, I drove my mom’s little sedan with my sister as my passenger.

I have seen my sister three times in the last year, the first time when I went on an Easter vacation in the Philippines, the second when I attended her wedding in December (also in the Philippines), and then this time.

Still, I was really thrilled to be driving her around my part of the world and just having girl-talk! During the entire time, I felt a little dazed, happy-crazy dazed, wondering which continent I was seeing her in; it seemed so strange that she was in America!

How great to have that reunion!! I had one with my great aunt this Sept. It had been 28 years since we had seen each other. I know the feeling was great. Other than we only lived a state away. But I finally rebelled against the family drama and stopped to see her while traveling through her town. The world didn’t collapse, so I guess the family drama didn’t extend to me!

I’d be be happy-crazy dazed too, am always like that with my sister, see my family about once a year.

21 years, wow! And cousins meeting for the first time, big fun stuff.

Sorry your dad is not feeling the best. Hope he will rest up and enjoy the “in-house” celebrations.

I’m so happy for you! I know how great it is to be reunited with family after years of long separation.

Which part of Ireland is your sister from. My mother in law is Irish (born and raised) so I’m wondering if she’s picked up the accent because that would be dang cute πŸ™‚

Janna: Thanks. Yes, it’s a great feeling.

Firecat: Thanks, Firecat. I get to take them shopping without my husband. Fun times!

Suz: Are you a long-distance family, too?

Tulsi: Thanks for stopping here. Good for you; sometimes rebellion is called for ;-).

    Sabine: Thank you!

JN: Yeah, my kids are so cousin-starved…they’ll see their cousin tomorrow (or tonight hopefully).

Melanie: Yeah, I am hoping I get a sisterly lunch date with mine.

RC: I’m sure you do living so far from home! Have they ever come for a visit??

Jannie: Thanks. I’m hoping he’ll be up to going out with us, so he won’t miss out on all the fun.

Q: Yeah, that’s hard, isn’t it? My husband’s maternal side still have big reunions, and my kids genuinely enjoy it. I’m glad for them.

    Lance: Thank you, we will!

Marivic: No accent yet, though I sure love listening to my bro-in-law talk. I think Donegal, hour or two (?) from Dublin. I can’t wait to return their visit πŸ™‚

Blessings: Lovely name πŸ™‚ and welcome. So you’ve lived there?? I hope you can take your hubby there, too! I am looking forward to taking my family back there, especially to the southern islands of Palawan and Mindanao.
