Calling

Pink Think: “I don’t know what my calling is, but I want to be here for a bigger reason. I strive to be like the greatest people who have ever lived.” – Will Smith

It’s been a good kind of crazy around here.

I’m the president of our local alumni association and I have been organizing a scholarship fundraising event slated for Nov. 4. Our board is barebones but stellar, sponsors are signing on, we have a fabulous speaker, and things are looking up. I can’t wait to see this all to fruition.

I feel like I am in my element. Like this is my calling, if you will. I have enjoyed seeing this project go from mere idea to event, all the pieces interlocking like a jigsaw puzzle. And not spending a whole lot of money.

Some people hate asking people for money. I love it. It’s all in the spin.

I could ask people for a donation, or I could invite them to promote their business through a donation.

I could ask them to sponsor a table or I could ask them to get a great value for their training dollars while supporting a good cause.

Spin sounds so fakey, but it really comes down to perspective.

I told my husband with all the time and effort I’m expending, I could be working a paying job. Who knows, maybe this will open up opportunities for me. After Nov. 4, we’ll see.

One downside of organizing this event, I feel glued 24/7 to my e-mail. Thank goodness I don’t have a Blackberry.

In order for me to be productive with my other writing, I bought myself a used, no-frills laptop for a hundred bucks. I use it just mostly for Word documents and it has no wireless internet. It gives me a webby break.

That’s where I’ll be for now.

When I’m not inviting someone to promote their business, that is.
