Barack Obama’s Bumper Car

Pink Think: “Barack Obama predicted the Democratic debate in Des Moines on Sunday was going to be like a game of bumper cars. Instead, it turned out more like a ride on the Tunnel of Love.” – Roger Simon, author & journalist, August 2007

Amid all the hoopla and significance of this past week (Hooray for our first black president!), the one photo that stands out to me is one I saw in Sunday’s issue of Parade Magazine.

*Update* Here’s this link to the photo by Scott Olson/Getty Images.

I love this photo, taken of then-candidate Obama and his six year old daughter Sasha riding a bumper car at the Iowa State Fair in August 2007 before the Iowa debates. Heck, if President Obama drives the country as well as he drives a bumper car, we are in good shape.

I’d be the first in line to drive bumper-car to bumper-car with President Obama.

I have to get in my bumper car ride when we take our kids to the State Fair or amusement park. I also love the merry-go-round, ferris wheel and the little train ride. No roller coaster rides for me.

Thank goodness for my kids or I’d have to just go on the kiddie rides by my grown-up self, and what’s the fun in that?

Actually, I think I’d still do it even when my kids are grown.

My must-do’s: bumper cars, the merry-go-round and a dart game or two. Oh, and also the cheesy, not-at-all-scary “haunted” ride. Must-eats: corn on the cob, cotton candy, Hawaiian chicken.

What do YOU love most at the amusement park?
