8th Wonder of the World

The other day, I was tagged by my wonderful friend Shari. The tag involved posting multiple lists of 8 categories I was supposed to answer. So I will play, but I’m tweaking it.

Instead of making lists of 8 things about me, I will answer the question: “Why is my husband the 8th Wonder of the World?” (After my last post, I decided I need to clear any misconceptions anyone might have of this wonderful man.)

Here are my 8 answers:

1. He’s seen me at my best…and my worst and yet he still loves me.

2. He gives me the freedom to pursue my passions. Thanks to his support, over the years, I have learned how to play the piano, clog, paint, and ride horses. He believes in my talents, and encourages me in my writing dream. He’s my fiercest cheerleader and in-house therapist.

3. He’s a hunk. As much as I would love a husband who would say, “Yes, dear” to some things, he doesn’t just roll over and let me get my way every time. Yes, really, this to me is a plus. I want a husband who does not easily give up his convictions. (And I love, love, love his beard…and the way he looks in what I call his Paul Bunyan shirts.)

4. Speaking of convictions, my husband is a man who takes his religion and his faith seriously. He’s a great example to our family.

5. He is a wonderful dad to our three children. His idea of things to do on his day off is to do something with the family or the kids. He is kind to them and lets them play.

6. He is great with our pets. Okay, so maybe it’s a given, considering he is a veterinarian, but let me share an example. Last week, one of our horses got a cut on the back of his foreleg. He not only stitched it up, he also went over for a week, once in the morning and once at night (in the cold dark dawn and evenings) to inject him with antibiotics. Without complaint.

7. He’s fun. I’ve gone bungee-jumping with him. He knows all The Muppets songs. He does a great Donald Duck impersonation. He loves unconventional ties. He introduced me to country music. He makes me laugh. He helps me not take myself too seriously.

8. And finally, he takes his turn at chores… like cleaning the bathroom…and dishes…sweeping the kitchen…cooking a mean taco…and scrapbooking (for the record if he didn’t scrapbook, it wouldn’t get done)!

So there you have it, my 8th Wonder of the World. I love you, Drew, and I’m so grateful to have you in my life!
