Silly Like a Kid 42

Pink Think: “The best things in life are silly. “ – Scott Adams

I got my clogging shoes this past Friday. They are for a clogging class I will be taking with a bunch of other moms. (I would have started last week, but the teacher’s daughter broke an arm and had to have a cast put on.) This is how they look like:

They’re actually just some inexpensive shoes from Payless with clogging taps screwed onto the toe and heel part of the shoe. So now you (and I) know what “clogging taps” look like. I love the sound they make when I walk in them.

It makes me think of medieval soldiers in chain mail as they walk down the hallway of a drafty castle.

I showed off my new shoes to my children, and they all lined up to take a turn.

The shoes make me feel like a kid again. Silly and giddy with a new toy.

***

How about you, what did you get recently that made you silly like a kid?

I clogged when I was in elementary school. I loved it.

My husband bought me a new book last week and that made me feel silly like a kid.

  • Don

Woohoo! Can’t go wrong starting a post with a quote from Douglas Adams.

Last night, our youngest set up an interesting game, kind of like musical chairs, with our little musical instruments scattered on each of the chairs.

I had a blast, especially with the slide whistle. I guess you could call that thing silly.

My daughter had tap shoes when she had tap dancing lessons a long time ago. I liked it when all these little girls ran around in those shoes and making these tap-tap sounds. I think it will be even funner when it’s the Moms doing it. Not that you and the other Moms will be running around in your clogging shoes driving the teacher crazy — although that sounds kind of fun, doesn’t it? I’m looking forward to future posts about the clogging lessons. I admire you so much for the desire to acquire new talent and skills.

The last time I felt like a kid? When I got another Madame Alexander doll. I love dolls!

    Clogging sounds like fun.

I bought a Slip-n-Slide for my kids over the summer and played with them.

I don’t remember the water from the hose being *quite* that cold when I was little, but it was fun anyway.

Ah, I see you have jingle taps.
I lauged at your description of the clinking sound. For us, it was always a problem trying to tip toe silently into place backstage with shoes that are not made for sneaking around in. If you walk completely flat-footed, it does deaden the sound a bit.
Please be aware that those taps can be very slippery. Even ordinary wooden floors can feel like an ice rink with those slick taps under your feet.
    I miss clogging.

I love your shoes! I used to tap when I was a kid…but I learned it wasn’t for me. I was to shy. 🙂

Hmmm….what have I bought recently…a video game!!! It’s not much, but Spongebob definitely makes me feel like kid. The game is fun.

  • Robin

Hi Jewell – love the tap shoes!

I just got TWO new pairs of jeans, which may sound mundane, but it is SIGNIFICANT!

    Cheers – Robin

Prince: Hey, I hadn’t thought of that! Now that you mention it…

Cat: Yes! Books make me happy, too. I recently took my kids to a kid bookstore, and bought a book for me. They offered me free gift wrapping, and I said, why not? It’s like a gift to me 🙂

Don: Very cute. The thought of you playing a slide whistle and running around playing musical chairs with your girls makes me smile.

Angie: I had been in a drought, too. 🙂

Hana: Doubly cute if they were pink…

Rachel: It’s all good material for my fiction someday, I’m trying to assure myself.

  • Pink Ink

Marivic: My mother-in-law loves those dolls, too. In fact, I think McDonald’s is running kids meal Madame Alexander dolls from Wizard of Oz (to collect, not to eat 😉

Tap tap tap…yeah, the thought of all these moms running around makes me smile.

Wendy: I didn’t even break out ours this summer. Good for you!

Serena: That’s what I’ve heard. Gonna get myself in shape, that’s for sure!

Colby: That’s what I wanted to do in the first place, but this’ll be fun, too.

Vered: Hi! It’s hard for me to let my hair down, too, but when I do, my husband gives me wide berth 😉

PW: *jingle taps* Love that name!

    Terra: *spongebob* Cute, Terra!

Tina/Ryan: Oh Tina. I am laughing so hard, this *lace sock* comment coming from this tough-looking dude! My tummy hurts…

Robin: Hello! Yes, new jeans to-break-into never fail to make me feel GOOD.

  • Big Plain V

You go, Pink. Clog that thang.

(I’m not real sure what that means, but judging from the kind of stuff my teens say, I think it means something like ‘I hope you thoroughly enjoy your clogging experience’)

    How fun!!

So I recently dug through the closet at my parents house and pulled out my mom’s old roller skates (made circa 1976?) They are brown with blue wheels and gigantic blue stoppers -and I love them.

Then I went roller skating with a friend, and it was so, so fun!

  • Guardian Angel

    Hi,

I saw you at Daily Blog Tips and I was intrigued by your name, as well as your strategy by putting a interesting quote on top of your posts.

Anyway, I always try to be look silly if I am in front of my children. But I think the best time that I did it was 4 years ago. I was sent to Japan by my employer for a 5-month training with 9 others and me as their leader.

I played in the snow for the first time in my entire life since there’s no snow here in the Philippines.

Just as I thought nobody is looking at me since it was in the early morning. But before I knew it, my men are watching me through the window.

Minutes later, all of us were playing like kids!

  • Wendi Kelly

My father is a clogger and my mother is a tapper. What does that make me?
A wiggler. Hehehe. I just like to let loose and let it go. No lessons just give me a beat and let’s go! That’s what makes me feel young.

  • Imperfect

Hi! Thanks for stopping by and commenting. The shoes are so fun! I spent years and years taking ballet and I pulled out my old pointe shoes the other day. It was fun to see if I could still wear them.

I hope you have a blast with your clogging class. They held clogging and Irish dancing classes in the cultural arts center that housed my ballet studio. It was so fun to wander downstairs and watch them between rehearsals!

  • Pink Ink

    BPV: I will!

Heather: When I think of roller skating, I think of Xanadu with Olivia Newton-John :-). Sounds like a blast.

Guardian Angel: Welcome, and thanks for sharing that fun experience :-). I’ll trade you snow this winter for some atis or lanzones :-).

Laura: Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for linking me.

CJ: I thought about recording me dancing from the waist up, but I decided that’s not such a good idea either. 🙂

Wendi: How funny! Wiggle to your heart’s content 🙂

Imperfect: Hi! I admire you for taking ballet…such a beautiful dance.

Aubrey: No wonder, coz it’s pink! 🙂

  • theworkingmom

Hmmm, I’m curious about clogging…What is it exactly? Tapdancing? Sorry for the ignorance!

Off-topic– You did ask to be included in a future PPBC edition, and the future is now! 🙂

  • Pink Ink

Hi Joey: Yeah, it’s kind of like tap dancing. It makes a cool tap tap tap noise, but it’s a different step, like some people have pointed out. I’ll post about it more, stay tuned.

And yes, I most likely will join the carnival. My daughter happens to be turning 13 this Friday. (Mmm, does that make it “Friday, the 13th”?) Thanks for the invitation/reminder.

  • rcloenen-ruiz

Mine involves shoes too. High-heeled, shiny dark purple shoes. It’s been a long time since I’ve worn heels, so that was a pretty giddy moment. They also have bands on them like your shoes, but no clogs attached.

  • Pink Ink

Whoa, RC. Those sound like awesome high heels. I’ve never owned purple shoes and I wouldn’t survive a day in high heels, but they sure sound glamorous!

  • Sass

    Your post made me smile.

Came across your blog from SITS.

Honestly, the last thing that made me silly like a kid would have to be the night I rented Speed Racer with my kids.

Made me think of my days spent on my mom’s couch watching that silly show, and thinking I was Racer X. 🙂

I’ll be back to read more!!!

    ~sass

  • Pink Ink

Sass: Thanks for saying hi. I’m not sure what Speed Racer is…TV show? But it sounds like fun. I like going to the arcade with my kids. I like a pocketful of change and getting my fix on that way 🙂

  • Tammy Warren

I am catching up today on my blogs that I have missed this week.

I love the shoes. I love to dance. I bet this does make you feel like a kid again.

This is so great that you are doing this.

Well, I bought me a new bike yesterday. That made me feel so alive again.
