One truckin’ mama 5

Pink Think: “A suburban mother’s role is to deliver children obstetrically once, and by car forever after.” – Peter de Vries

I once had a goal that by the time I hit 30, I’d drive a semi. I don’t know why, I just thought it sounded fun.

Didn’t happen.

I remembered that goal this past week when we bought a maroon, three-quarter ton Dodge Ram 2500 pick-up truck.

Guess who’ll be driving it? Me!

It felt as though I was driving a semi. I needed binoculars just to see into my blind spot. I am thinking of getting a ladder so I can climb into the truck bed to unload groceries.

I have a confession to make: I love it.

I feel like a mom on testosterone. I can do anything! I can haul anything (like the horse trailer we got this for, to begin with)! I can…well, give me some time with parking between the yellow lines at Wal-Mart. Only thing is, since it has fewer seat belts than our GMC Yukon XL I can’t haul an entire soccer team in it.

I’m noticing a trend. Over the years, the cars I drive have gotten bigger and bigger. I have owned (in chronological order) a:
1. Dodge Colt
2. Pontiac Lemans
3. Dodge Stratus (by far my favorite, alas absolutely impractical now)
4. Dodge Caravan (my intro into the soccer-mom phase)
5. GMC Yukon XL (my husband can borrow and not have to hide his face)
and finally,
6. Dodge Ram 2500

By the time I hit 40, who knows, maybe I’ll be driving a semi after all.

    I have a hard time picturing this…but then, I don’t.

I love driving my suburban. People get outta my way! The parking thing, well, somedays are better than others. 🙂

Forget the yellow lines, kiddo! In a truck that big – you MAKE the parking spot right where you want it! lol!

Picturing you behind the wheel of that is like picturing me in the drivers seat of a miata – only backward! Funny, but great!

Shari: I tell you crazy stuff here I wouldn’t even tell my mother 🙂

Melinda: I don’t know if I can ever get back behind the wheel of a small car. I would feel like a bug on the floor of a crowded mall.

Stephanie: My mom and I shared that Colt. It was cute. Can’t really say “cute” now about the truck. 🙂

Weston: Yeah, as long as I don’t hit anyone, I’m good :-).
