Me, As a Mermaid

Pink Think: “I think every little girl’s dream is to be a mermaid or to see a mermaid. [When I was younger] I would go to the beach and cover myself in the sand. People from different cultures and centuries have the same idea of what mermaids are … so that’s maybe a cool thing to think about.” – Emma Roberts
The very talented writer and artist Elizabeth Mueller recently turned me into a mermaid.

She had asked for ideas of art on her clip art blog, and I said “hibiscus flower”. Then I got more specific and said, “an Asian mermaid with a hibiscus flower in her hair”. Was pleasantly surprised when she turned my idea into a portrait of me. How cool is that? Thank you Elizabeth!

(My oldest daughter looked at it and said it was good. Then she added, sounding relieved, “At least she drew you modestly.”)

A few months ago, I started a fantasy novel about mermaids in the Philippines, but didn’t get past a few chapters. If I do decide to pick it up again, I’ll have this art to inspire me.
