Interesting Phone Call

I got an interesting call this week. A Call, not The Call.

“Is this Jewel?”

“Yes,” I said.

“This is the junior high. I’m calling you because we are having ‘Author’s Day’ and you had said in the past that you were willing to help?”

“Um, sure…” How did she know I write novels? But I’m not published! What do I have to say to junior high kids…

“We’ll assign you to a room and you can help with crowd control,” she said.

“Oh,” I said. “You mean you have authors lined up and I will help in the room?”

“Right.”

“Sure,” I said. “I’d be glad to help.”

We hung up, and after laughing at myself a little, I thought, wouldn’t it be nice if someday I get the call to be one of the published authors making an appearance?

On my quest to getting published…

Cleaned up my historical novel and sent off to my readers. Funny how I used to bite my nails about this a year ago with my paranormal novel. I don’t feel as emotionally invested. It’s like sending a kid to camp for a week. I’m hoping to get reports of good behavior, but if there are problems, I want to hear the truth!

I am SO done with this story for now. I am relieved to let it go and take a break. After my newspaper article, I will tackle my next project, a YA fantasy set in the Philippines.

I feel like I’ve learned so much from my last two novels, though if you were to ask me what exactly did I learn, I wouldn’t be able to string together a coherent thought. My brain’s a little exhausted at the moment. I think mainly, I feel more efficient about the whole process.

I am gearing up for querying once again, this time with agents who are interested in historical fiction. Seems to have more options than paranormal.
