Hopeful

Pink Think: “The capacity for hope is the most significant fact of life. It provides human beings with a sense of destination and the energy to get started.” – Norman Cousins

Holy cow! I woke up this morning to a foot of snow and couldn’t find the dog dishes, it was that deep. But now I am inside the house and warm, thankful to not have to drive in to “work.”

After posting this, I will be back to revising my novel, which is set in the Philippines and takes some imagination when outside is about as opposite to the tropics as you can conjure. Revising is going well. The one thing I’m doing different this time is, I play rousing, loud music as I write. It keeps me awake and gets my blood (and brain) pumping. A chapter a day, about, with a nice start that makes me hopeful.

Our legislative session has given me a lot of fodder for op-eds. I’ve had a chance to tussle with topics like abortion and gun control, topics I’d have shied away from before I had my column. In fact, after following the legislative session so closely, I am interested in getting more involved in the caucus level locally.

[I don’t like roller coasters. I’m more the merry-go-round trooper. So the Republican caucus is too much of a nail-biter for me to bear. So I open one eye and try to read the headlines. I’m a sort-of Romney supporter, mostly because he seems capable, so every time he wins, I breathe a sigh of relief. Santorum isn’t too bad but I cringe when he lets loose his rants. But Gingrich? Please just go away already.]

To close on a positive note…our house is almost ready to sell. It’s amazing what you can accumulate over 11 years. And such a nice feeling to declutter. Painted some places neutral, painted a lighthouse/ocean theme in the kids’ bath, will be ready for carpet cleaning. Feeling more optimistic about the housing market this time around compared to our first go-round two years ago.

Life is good! What makes you feel hopeful today?
