Pink Think: “Revision is one of the exquisite pleasures of writing.” – Bernard Malamud

Thanks for all the get-well soon wishes on my last post. I am feeling better, especially with all the sleep I have been getting. Sleep is good!
I have mostly been revising a manuscript which I plan to pitch to an agent at a writer’s conference in April. It’s been an interesting experience.
Mostly good days. Kind of like making this lasagna recipe from scratch, not as quick as the no-boil noodles; less slap-dash. Early drafts are like fast food where the characters are a bit one-dimensional, and revising is like savoring a gourmet meal and the characters are more fully-formed. I also feel like my passages are getting a lyrical makeover. I admit, it’s a little easier to not get burnout when I changed the point-of-view altogether.

For a couple of hours yesterday, just for a break, I sat at my computer trying to come up with some story ideas. I would just start typing, then see if the characters do something interesting or if personality shines through the dialogue. Trying to generate the next “it” story for me, for a first-chapter contest in March. So far nothing too grabby yet.
How do you writerly types get your ideas?

Finally, I am getting my voice back. Tried singing Stevie Nicks’ Landslide which I learned to fingerpick on the guitar (sweet!) and hubby said my rendition sounded like Bob Dylan.
