Day 44: Sierra’s mission call

I’ve joined the #100happydays challenge. Daily, for 100 days, I will post something that makes me happy. Today at 5:44 a.m. I got a phone call from the post office telling me that my daughter’s mission call has arrived.

I got up, went to Sierra’s bedroom and gently shook her awake. “The post office called,” I said. “Your mission call is here.”

From under her puffy white bedspread, she said, “Yay.” Like a little duckling making a peeping noise.

“If you want to pick it up before 9 you can knock on the post office door,” I added.

“Okay,” she said. “I’m going to sleep some more.”

Floating back to bed, I thought I’d fall back asleep, too. Instead, I lay there thinking:

She needs a new mattress.
Where is she going?
Omigosh omigosh, it’s really happening!
After this, she’ll be here for only a few more months.
We need to do more things together as a family!
She’ll be a great missionary.
I love her.
I’m so excited for her!
I’ll miss her.
How can my husband fall asleep again?
Where is she going?
I don’t even want to think of where she might be going.
I went to bed last night at 1:30 a.m. Why can’t I fall asleep again?

We’ll be opening her call at 6:30 tonight. It’s going to be a long 13 hours.
