To get published, your book is what is important, not your connections. – David Farland

Frankly, I am exhausted. These late nights and early morninggs are catching up with me. It is nearly midnight and I have barely finished today’s homework. And even then, it is not as polished as I’d like. I have also been getting up at 5:20 every morning so I can still get in a crossfit workout and a 10-15 minute treadmill run before heading into Salt Lake.

Still…I have absolutely loved it. I look forward to tomorrow, but I will admit, it will be nice to be able to sleep in a little after that.

It was a good day, as usual. We started out critiquing our pitches, and I got some helpful feedback. One of my workshop mates gave me some good tips of how to rewrite mine. Tomorrow, a Shadow Mountain editor, Lisa Mangum, will join us and critique our pitches. That’s the thing with this workshop. You have to put yourself out there. It’s great practice.

I love my workshop-mates. When we talk about our manuscripts, I think all of us try to be kind but also helpful. Including bringing treats that I shouldn’t really eat, but oh well, YOLO. For lunch we went as a group to a Thai restaurant at 5600 West. We talked shop and I discovered that a few of the others have been to multiple writing workshops and conferences. I can’t wait till the day when one or more of us will hit it big and we’ll say, we knew him/her then.

Tonight’s homework is to throw everything we’ve learned in a scene transition. I worked on it a lot today, after the conference and before bed until I was cross-eyed.

Good night all!
