And done!

I didn’t think I’d actually be able to finish it, though I was really really close to the end. Six chapters. That was all I had left of The Last Princess, Book 2 of my Islands of the Crown Series. AKA sequel to The Spanish Exile.

I had already anticipated a crazy week. Every day, I have meetings related to either City Council or ghostwriting. I already was feeling anxious; worrying how I could fit writing time. So I went into this Monday not really thinking I’d do any writing.

I went early to the Capitol before my legislative meeting and spent several minutes trying to find parking. Then had my meeting. I should have been burnt out. I should have been done and wanting to go home. Instead, I decided to stay and write more of Book 2.

Funny how much I could write when my devices can’t seem to hook up easily to the Internet. (They had wi-fi, but it took me until after I was done with the book before I figured out how to connect, and that was so I could take a pic of “The End” and post it on Instagram and Facebook).

For about three hours, I sat first in the hallway by the House of Representatives leadership office, then I went down to the Capitol cafeteria. There was just enough noise and anonymity that I could actually focus better on my manuscript. The fun thing was, I had already written short sentences of the remaining six chapters. As I fleshed out the story, the plot twists surprised me. I would read along, and go, I didn’t expect that. Which is funny for a book I wrote.

And then, about 5:30, I finished the book!

I really enjoyed writing The Last Princess. There is more humor in this one than the first. Mainly because of the banter between characters. I plan to edit it with one more pass-through, then give it to my beta readers to read. My 16 year old daughter is excited to read it and I am excited to see what she thinks.
