Two years ago, in November, I participated in National Novel Writing Month (you write a 50k word novel in a month) and wrote the manuscript that is now Book 2 of the Islands of the Crown series, The Last Princess.
Today, I realized that I am about 5-6 chapters away from finishing a fully fleshed out revision of the book. I am already at 70k, which means it is a good length. The Spanish Exile is at 76k words.
It’s going to be a busy week ahead, but if I work on it a couple of hours at a time, I believe I can finish this story. Then it will be on to beta readers, editor, cover reveal and putting it up for pre-order already once TSE is launched.
Wow, that would be so cool.
This series has been playing out in my mind for forever. I feel like I know the characters and how they tick. The reason I want to produce them as quickly as I can this year is so that I can be consistent in tone and style, and because waiting two years between drafts, I forget how the story goes.
The funnest part is in having these stories put into an actual book that I can hold and seeing the characters on the covers as I envisioned them.
