Most Monday nights, our family holds “Family Night” where we share a spiritual lesson, read scriptures, and sing a couple of hymns. We also have an activity and a treat. We take turns doing each part, and I was in charge of the treats. I chose Jelly Belly jellybeans.
It was so fun just sitting around the table playing the board game Life and taking one jelly bean at a time and seeing how our expectation matched the actual flavor. My oldest daughter said, “I love jelly beans…”
I said, “…because each bite is a fun surprise?”
And she nodded, smiling.
(My oldest daughter is so similar to me in many ways it’s fun. Sometimes we both catch a sunset or a flower or a song on the radio and we look at each other like kindred souls. Color makes her – and me – happy, plus rainbows, books, sunflowers and music. When we are together, I know exactly when her happiness meter increases, because I feel the same way.)
