Like the first day of kindergarten

Pink Think: “I learned that you should feel when writing, not like Lord Byron on a mountain top, but like child stringing beads in kindergarten, – happy, absorbed and quietly putting one bead on after another.” -Brenda Ueland

You ever get a feeling that ideas are just pouring out of you? Yesterday felt like that for me. I got an idea both for a business of my own and a new young adult novel.

It’s like the first day of kindergarten. Excited! A little apprehensive. But mostly excited! Grateful to be the recipient of divine inspiration.

I say, a business “of my own” because for the past few years it seems my ventures and projects have been about raising money for other people. This time, it’s my own baby. And I feel like I have the chops to do it. Next thing I need to do is research and networking. I can’t tell you yet what it is, but as soon as it’s up and running, you’ll be the first to know.

As for the novel, I’d been researching a topic online, which led me to a news story that was practically begging to be written into a novel. I can’t tell you what it’s about yet, but I think I know the story arc, which is nice to have this early on in the process.

I have also been reading the books above. I love psychology and business books. Just love, love learning what makes other people tick, and also learning how people went from idea to business.

The book 101 Weird Ways to Make Money was a hoot. I kept laughing out loud and reading passages to my kids who really should have been doing their homework. The author, Steve Gillman, once sold “Canned Critters,” stuffed animals in canning jars. The kids would beg their parents to buy one so they could release them from the jars.

If you haven’t read this book yet, you should. You’ll either be glad you’re in your conventional job, or you’ll quit to be a maggot farmer. If I were to pick a weird job from his book, it would probably be repossessing cars. 🙂

What’s got you excited this week?
